Phil Blythe is professor of Intelligent Transport Systems and director of the Transport Operations Research Group, School of Civil Engineering and Geoscience, University of Newcastle. Phil is a Chartered Engineer, who works mainly at the interface between ITS and charging technologies and policy. He has been involved in the research and development of road user charging schemes for 20 years, including the development of the world 's first DSRC multi-lane free-flow system in 1991. He also played a leading role in the recent UK Government 's ground-breaking future Foresight study on Intelligent Infrastructure Systems and their development over the next 50 years.
